How to Apply for an American Visa from Dubai?

  1. Step 1: Choose the Right Visa Type

Start by deciding the purpose of your travel, such as tourism, studying, or working in the US. Based on this, choose the correct visa category. You can visit the U.S. The Department of State website to learn more on different types of visas and their requirements, or contact visa experts like us, and we will guide you throughout the entire process.

  2. Step 2: Fill Out the DS-160 Form Online

Visit the Consular Electronic Application Center website to fill out the DS-160 form. Make sure you complete it accurately and truthfully. You will also need to upload a photo that meets US visa photo guidelines. After submitting the form, print the confirmation page with the barcode. You must bring this to your visa interview.

  3. Step 3: Pay the Visa Fee

Once you have completed the DS-160 form, go to the website of the US Embassy or Consulate in the UAE to find instructions for paying the visa fee. For most non-immigrant visas, the fee is $185. Keep the payment receipt, as you’ll need it for your appointment.

  4. Step 4: Book Your Visa Interview

After paying the fee, schedule your interview appointment through the US Embassy or Consulate website (either in Abu Dhabi or Dubai). Use the same DS-160 barcode number while booking. Keep in mind that each person applying, including children, must have a separate appointment. Appointments cannot be scheduled by email.

  5. Step 5: Attend Your Interview

Go to the US Embassy or Consulate on the date and time of your appointment. Bring all the required documents, including your passport (valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel),residence visa, the DS-160 confirmation page, the appointment letter, and any supporting documents like NOC and salary certificate. Be ready to answer questions about your travel plans, ties to the UAE, and when you plan to return.

US Visa Interview Preparation & Dropbox Guidelines

  • US Visa Interview: What to Expect

All applicants, irrespective of their age must attend an in-person visa interview in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

Punctuality is critical: Make sure to arrive at the interview promptly. Your appointment will be cancelled if you are late.

The interviewer /Consular Officer will ask you about the purpose of visit during this appointment. Make sure you correctly respond to each question. Your responses must match the details in your documentation.

Based on the overall profile, consistency between the application, forms, and interview responses during the interview, the consulate will decide on the visa approval.

  • Interview Method: In-Person vs Dropbox

Through interview: For applicants who are applying for the first time

Dropbox (Interview Waiver Program): Applicants do not need to attend an in-person interview. They can drop off their documents at VFS in Dubai or Abu Dhabi for processing.
